One Man and His BikeNovember4/5.11.02 John has cycled through Europe and today entered Africa! He crossed from Algeciras (Spain) to Ceuta (Morocco). This route was chosen, rather than the planned crossing to Tangier, because the bike travelled free. He has been suffering from back pain and went to a market in Tetouan in search of painkillers. He was given a massage by a local trader who applied ‘special’ oils. Having purchased the oils, he now has to apply them – not quite as effective or pleasurable! John is very impressed with Morocco, so much so he’s stayed in the same area for two nights – the first time he’s done so on his trip. He reports Morocco as, “very beautiful – but the campsite toilet block is a bit basic.” The hand-flushed toilets do not sound so delightful. 22.11.02 John called home tonight so we
are now in a good position to update you on his progress.
Having spent some time in Marekesh, John is now getting over the
flu and is ready to continue his journey. Over morning tea (a mint, syrupy concoction!) shared with two Spanish travellers, John discussed his forthcoming trip into Western Sahara. He will be taking a pass through the High Atlas Mountains, known as Tiz’n’Test. Fellow travellers have been advising him to stock up with paracetamol – the currency most favoured by people he’s likely to encounter in Western Sahara. |
